2014-2015 American Studies Art and Photo Prize
In an increasingly online world, the field of American Studies remains committed to studying material culture. In our popular “Objects and Everyday Life” class, students learn about how to learn about things, whether that’s the Barbie doll, the Lawn, or the bra.
In that spirit, AMS is sponsoring an Art contest, limited to AMS majors, minors or those who have taken AMS classes to paint an object that we purchased from the UC Davis Bargain Barn
Sketch out a concept (with colors) and AMS faculty will choose one winner. The winning entry will receive $75 gift certificate to the UCD bookstore and the object will featured on the AMS website. We will pay for $75 in art materials, as long as they can be purchased from the bookstore. With those materials, you can actualize your vision in time for the AMS spring graduation party and write a short paragraph explaining the concept which we will also feature on the website.
In addition, we are asking for images to be added to the AMS home page that best “represent America and/or American Studies at UC Davis.” AMS faculty will choose the top 10 images submitted, and you will receive $10 Bookstore gift card if we select your image. If chosen, your photo will be added to the website banner. Each person is limited to 2 entries, and by submitting the photo, you release the photo to be used on the website. Photos should be sent as Jpegs, 900 W x 600 H (i.e., 3:2 aspect ratio)
How to submit your entry:
Concepts and images should be submitted by May 29th 2015 to Naomi Ambriz at nambriz@ucdavis.edu
